Satin bowerbirds at a bower

I was contacted recently by someone who had some Satin bowerbirds in her front yard, and who asked if I would like to come and have a look, and film them.

So I set a camera trap there and ran it for about 25 hours. There was a lot of footage – and it turns out this is a practise bower built by a young male that’s one year off being a full adult. His bower and displays draw the attention of the resident senior male and a younger immature male as well.

I won’t say anything else – it’s all in the video! These are very entertaining birds – and thanks to Deb for inviting me to film them, and to Martin Cachard for helping me indentify the sex and age of the birds, and what’s going on in their behaviour.
